Day 3 puts India in strong position with the Centuries of Vijay and Kohli

India Vs England 4th Test (Mumbai) : Day 3 Match Report

Match in day 3 started on a high note for England as  Pujara (47) failed to judge the length and line and clean bowled by the Jake ball in very first over without scoring a run.

After the wicket fall, Kohli came to the crease and showed his class with tremendous shot selection and length reading capability. Kohli and Vijay played sensibly to grow up the partnership between them and in mean time Vijay completes his 8th test century which took Indian score to 247/2 at time of lunch.

After lunch, 2nd session started with the Vijay’s (136) dismissal where he was trying to hit full toss and grabbed up by Adil Rashid on his own bowling.  Young batsmen,Karun Nair ,added to the team at place of injured Rahane , also failed to impress and caught in front of the wickets and judged LBW by DRS. The wickets were falling from one end but Indian captain was not looking to compromise with his shots and strike rate and he kept playing his shots and gets his 15th test hundred.

Ashwin and Parthiv’s wickets in a quick session were some relief moments for England  but Kohli keeps firing from one end. Jadeja played some big shots to pace up the inning before going to the pavilion on Rashid’s flighted delivery.  After that Jayant Yadav holds one end to support Kohli and partnership between them took India 51 runs ahead from England’s  1st inning total. Kohli and Jayant were on the crease at the time of stumps with 451 runs on scoreboard with 7 wickets down.

Partnership between   Kohli (147)* and Jayant (30)* will be crucial one on day 4 as 100-120 runs lead can help them to pressurize England and on the other hand English team will try to resist the Indian batsmen to post a big total.

Scorecard: 1st innings

England 400   (Jennings 112 ,Ashwin 6/112)

India 451/7*   (Kohli 147*, Root2/18)
