The fourth day of Australian open witnessed the biggest upset ever in history of the happy slam.Here are more updates :
The biggest upset, ever in the history of the tournament, happened today. The 6-time champion, Novak Djokovic, got knocked out by a wild card player, Denis Istomin, in 5 sets, 7-6(8), 5-7, 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4. With this victory, Istomin became the second player outside top 100 to beat Top 2 at a Grand Slam, first was at Wimbledon 2014, where Kyrgios defeated Nadal.
Another upset of the day was an upset in straight sets, as the seed number 3, Agnieszka Radwanska, lost to the Croat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, 6-3, 6-2. The last time Lucic-Baroni progressed at the Australian Open was way back in 1998.
The Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, had an easy victory over Marcos Baghdatis in straight sets. Nadal expressed his satisfaction about the performance after the match, that he had won in straight sets against a tough opponent.
Another straight set victory came from the Canadian Milos Raonic against Gilles Muller, though the last set got stretched to a tie-break. Both, Raonic and Nadal, are yet to drop a set in the tournament.
The Frenchman, Gael Monfils, is through to the third round, after a victory over the Ukrainian Alexander Dolgopolov, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0. Also, seeded number 8, Dominic Thiem took the victory to his name in 4 sets against the Australian, Jordan Thompson. Thiem lost the third set in a tie-break, 7-6(6).
Karolina Pliskova defeated the Qualifier, Anna Blinkova in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Seeded number 9, Johana Konta had a straight set victory over Naomi Osaka, 6-4, 6-2.
The World Tour Finals winner, Dominika Cibulkova prevented her match from a decider set, the second set being extended to a tie-break, 6-4, 7-6(8). Serena Williams faced a player, whom she was all praises for, after the match. Lucie Safarova, though lost to Serena, but produced brilliant stats. Serena said, that Safarova played amazing, served well, and is a strong player.
