As it Happened : Shanghai Day 2

As the tournament proceeded to the R32 in Men’s Singles draw, the top seeds, David Ferrer and Richard Gasquet got knocked out. Also, the R64 victory gave Milos Raonic a reserved place for the WTF, London.

R32 began with Djokovic defeating Fognini in straight sets as he moved a step forward to capture the 4th Shanghai title. The world number 1 hadn’t played a match since exactly a month ago when he fell to Stan Wawrinka in the US Open Final. Being back on court, he played like the old Djokovic, broke Fognini in the second game of the match itself and made his opponent commit 40 unforced errors through the match.

Meanwhile, the Frenchmen, Tsonga and Monfils won their respective matches for R32 today, while the Croat Marin Cilic seeded number 8 went down against the German Alexander Zverev in 3 sets.
