Johanna Konta became first British Women to win Miami Masters

Johanna Konta emerged victorious, as she added another victory to her records against Caroline Wozniacki. She became the first British woman to reach the finals at Miami in 32 years. With a tough competition in the first set, she broke Wozniacki in her opening game, later got broken once in the set. In an edge-to-edge game, Konta bagged the first set, 6-4. Wozniacki was easily broken in the second; with 33 winners to Wozniacki’s 8, Konta ended the match on a lob shot, in 95 minutes.

Miami is the second title of the year for her, first being at Sydney. She had won almost £3million in career prize money coming into Miami. She has just added her biggest cheque of £937,000 to that.  Konta can crack it at Wimbledon where she would fully enter the general public’s consciousness. Can be a focussed,  powerful, positive role-model.

With this victory, she broke into the top 10, is the world number 7 now. She is now at number 2 in Road to Singapore, the ranking is as follows:

  1. Pliskova – 2151 points
  2. Konta – 2075 points
  3. Wozniacki – 2045 points
  4. Serena – 2030 points
  5. Venus – 1936 points
