Wimbledon Day 6 Review: The top seeds see it through

The day 6 of the Wimbledon 2017 ended as expected with the top seeds of the tournament getting an easy pass to the 4th Round. The 6th day marked the end of the 3rd Round, signifying the mid-way of this grass court Grand Slam.

The day saw the two top seeds in Radwanska and Bacsinszky compete in the first match on the centre court. Radwanska, the 9th seed wasn’t the favourite but still stunned the crowd with a brilliant performance against Timea, who entered the match with a mental advantage over the Polish. Radwanska started off a set down, losing the first set to a dominant Timea, 3-6. But soon followed one of the best plays by the Polish national as she managed a great comeback winning the next 2 sets of the 3 match thriller, winning the match 3-6 6-4 6-1.  Radwanska was the dominant of the two and exhibited a clear control over her game with confidence and her powerful shots.

Following this mouth-watering match, were matches from Novak Djokovic and Reger Federer, the two top seeds in the tournament who displayed a performance that showed why those two are named the top seeds.

Djokovic took on the Latvian, Ernests Gulbis while Federer took on an emerging Mischa Zverev. It was certainly an easy tie for the Serb but was completely opposite for the Swiss as Zverev is one of the best emerging players out there. Though both the players managed to thump their respective opponents in a straight set win with DJoko winning it 6-4 6-1 7-6 and Federer winning it 7-6 6-4 6-4.

The Court 1 saw some exciting matches too as Milos Raonic opened the day on Court 1 with defeating the 25th seed Spaniard, Albert Ramos Vinolas in straight sets 7-6 6-4 7-5.

Even the WTA top seed Caroline Wozniacki is going strong after her advancement to the 4th round at the cost of the Estonian, Anett Kontaveit. The Danish came from behind to win the match 3-6 7-6 6-2.

Dominic Thiem, the dark horse of the race also won his match against Jared Donaldson in straight sets without any major hiccups. He had a bit of competition in the first set but managed to get past it to eventually win the match, 7-5 6-4 6-2.

Even the likes of Grigor Dimitrov and Alexander Zverev got an easy pass along with Tomas Berdych. The WTA stars, Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza were also amongst the notable names to advance further in the competition, though Kerber was made to struggle for her win.
