Matches To look out for

After an exciting start to Wimbledon 2017, the day 2 sees some of the popular names in action.

First of all is the WTA World No. 1, Angelique Kerber who takes on the American Irina Falconi in her opening match for the campaign. Kerber isn’t in one of her best forms lately after failing to win any of the major titles in the clay season. Despite her horrendous form on the French clay that saw her exit in the first round itself, the pundits are placing their odds at least for the match being, on Kerber. The World No.1 won’t find it hard to see the American as she has had the experience of thumping her before.

Accompanying the Kerber are matches of the Serbian giant Novak Djokovic who takes on Martin Klizan in his opening battle. The match is followed by that of the King of Wimbledon, Roger Federer who takes on Alexandr Dolgopolov. Both Federer and Djokovic are amongst the top favourites in winning the tournament. While the Serb had a miserable clay session, Federer had decided to skip the part for focussing on the grass court spell. Both the players had a good pre-season at Eastbourne and Halle respectively after winning the titles. The first round at Wimbledon 2017 shouldn’t be much of a hardship for them.

Day 2 also sees action from other stars that include Milos Raonic, Dominic Thiem and WTA stars like Karolina Pliskova and Garbine Muguruza. All these stars are the top favourites in winning their first round matches though nothing much can be predicted about as Wimbledon is known for creating some major upsets before.  Thiem takes on the Canadian national Pospisil, Raonic takes on Jan-Lennard Struff while Pliskova and Muguruza take on Evgeniya Rodina and Ekaterina Alexandrova respectively in their Round 1 matches.
