French Open 2017 : Day 6 (Highlights) Nadal,Djokovic,Venus and Muguruza advances to next round

  • Nadal won his 75th match at Roland Garros on Friday as he bageled twice Nikoloz Basilashvili and won by 6-0 6-1 6-0. Nadal celebrates his 31st birthday on Saturday. “It is always great to celebrate my birthday here,” said Nadal. “I think only once or twice I didn’t celebrate here and was not the best feeling. It’s good news that I will be here and I am just happy for that.”
  • Defending champion Novak Djokovic won in a five-set thriller with a 5-7 6-3 3-6 6-1 6-1 win over Argentine Diego Schwartzman.Djokovic, meanwhile, secured his 58th win (for 11 losses) – the joint-highest number of victories at the event (Federer second: 65/16).
  • Sixth seed Dominic Thiem outplayed American Steven Johnson with thundering groundstrokes to claim a 6-1 7-6(4) 6-3 victory. 
  • Defending champion Muguruza’s defeated Kazakh Yulia Putintseva by 7-5 6-2 
  • Milos Raonic through to last 16 as  Guillermo Garcia-Lopez unable to continue.
  • Caroline Wozniacki’s third-round match against American Catherine Bellis was suspended due to rain at 6-2 2-5.
  • Venus Williams defeated Belgian Elise Mertens 6-3 6-1 in straight sets.
