The world No 1 Rafael Nadal demolished Nick Kyrgios to win his sixth title of the season at the China Open. The Spaniard won nine games in a row on his way to a comprehensive 6-2, 6-1 victory to reclaim a title he last won in 2005.
The 31-year-old Spaniard easily defeated Australian in a 6-2, 6-1 rout in 92 minutes on Beijing’s outside hard courts. Nadal, a 16-time Grand Slam winner, came to the Chinese capital on the back of winning his third US Open.
Kyrgios beat Nadal the last time they had met at the Cincinnati Masters.
And Nadal recalled the loss when advising his opponent to keep working on the good things in his game.“Congratulations to Nick for a great week,” he said. “Just a month ago you best met in Cincinnati. You’re doing great.
“Just keep going and playing that way. Of course you will have a lot of success in this sport.“You have a great future, so just keep going. That’s the same for your team. Well done and all the best for the future.”
