Australian Open 2018 draw : Men’s and women’s brackets announced

Defending champion Roger Federer opens against Slovenian Aljaz Bedene while six-time winner Novak Djokovic plays American Donald Young. Nadal opens against Victor Estrella-Burgos, of the Dominican Republic.

Romania’s world No 1 Simona Halep will face Australian wildcard Destanee Aiava as her first round opponent at the Australian Open,

Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza is in the same half of the draw as Halep and takes on France’s Jessika Ponchet in the opening round. 

Muguruza, seeded three, could face another Frenchwoman, Caroline Garcia, in the quarters.

Sharapova, who missed last year’s Open while serving a ban after testing positive to banned substance Meldonium willplay against German Tatjana Maria in first round..

Big names Serena Williams, Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori and Victoria Azarenka won’t be participating in the Australian Open this year.

The projected women’s quarterfinals include Simona Halep vs. Karolina Pliskova, Garbine Muguruza vs. Caroline Garcia, Venus Williams vs. Elina Svitolina and Jelena Ostapoenko vs. Caroline Wozniacki.

The projected men’s quarterfinals include Rafael Nadal vs. Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov vs. Jack Sock, Dominic Thiem vs. Alexander Zverev and David Goffin vs. Roger Federer.

Caroline Wozniacki,  opens against Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania in the bottom half of the draw.  She is projected to face French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia in the quarters.
