The second ATP 1000 Clay Masters, The Mutua Madrid Open is set to begin from Monday, the 7th of May. The undisputed king of clay, Rafael Nadal, will hunt for his 5th Madrid title, after winning his 10th at Monte Carlo and Barcelona both, in the previous fortnight. The fixture has 16 seeded players, out of which, the top 8 have received a bye each in the R64. There would be addition of 8 qualifying names in the fixture.

The world number 1, and the 2015 champion, took a break from the first installment of the hard season, and so did the world number 2, Novak Djokovic. Both returned back in the clay season. The newly back to tour after an injury, Milos Raonic may possibly face Tommy Haas in the R32, who has his last year on tour. In the quarters, he can possibly face Rafael Nadal, to whom he has lost 7 times, including 1 time on clay, and has won twice against him.

The Japanese sensation, Kei Nishikori, has been seeded 6 at the tournament, and can possibly face the 2016 Roland Garros champion, Novak Djokovic in the quarters.
