With the conclusion of the English Premier League, the big boys of the league have now turned their attention towards the summer transfer window.
With Manchester City signing the 22-year old Monaco’s Catalonian Midfielder, Bernardo Silva on Friday, Manchester United and Chelsea are in the race to sign the Inter Milan’s Croatian striker, Ivan Perisic.
A product of Hajduk Split (Croatian Football Club), Perisic made name for himself while playing for Club Brugge, where he was the Belgian Pro League top goal scorer and was named Belgian Footballer of the Year for 2011.
Commonly called Koka (hen) by his friends, the Croatian then moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2011 (signed a five-year contract) for an estimated transfer fee of €5 million.
During his time with Die Schwarzgelben” (The Black & Yellows), the young striker scored 12 goals in 64 games in all competition. His most notable goal for the club came on 13 September 2011 in UEFA Champions League against Arsenal. Coming on as a substitute in the 69th minute, Perisic scored a late equaliser from a 20-yard volley against the Gunners.
Perisic however, found limited first team opportunities and soon told a Croatian channel, Nova TV, that he has no support from Jurgen Klopp, (the then coach of Dortmund) as he favours players. In response, Klopp criticised his actions as childish and Perišić faced a fine, due to his comment.
He was then signed by the VfL Wolfsburg for €8 million in January 2013. He remained there for two-and-a-half-seasons, winning the 2015 DFB-Pokal Final, before moving to Inter for €20 million.
By the time he moved to the Italian club, Perisic was a fairly high-profile international player making his debut in 2011against Georgia. In the 2016 UEFA Euro, he was the top goalscorer for the Croatian side scoring six goals in nine matches.
A playing style that similar to Arjen Robben, Parisic is a player who loves to run on the flanks with the ball. His direct running and defensive tenacity is something Jose Mourinho would love to bring in the team.
On the other hand it would be a surprise to see him play in the Conte’s Chelsea, replacing the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro. This being said Antonio Conte has proved himself in the past in helping players to switch and mature in a new position.
Despite having a solid performance for Inter this season scoring 12 goals and six assists in 36 appearances, the club had a bad season finishing their campaign in the seventh position.
Chelsea and Manchester United are yet to offer yet to make an offer to the club, with Red Devils considering the fee quoted to be on the higher side.
Inter want around £43.7 million to part ways with the former Wolfsburg star as United step up their summer business but club from England are not willing to pay more than £30 million.
Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio revealed his side are yet to receive a formal approach from the Red Devils for their winger.
“[United] haven’t made us an official offer for Perisic but their interest is there. We want to improve Inter and this is why we do not have any sellable or un-sellable players as of now,” he further added, “We know that we already have many important players within our roster like Perisic and before we decide to sell him, we have to think about what’s best for Inter.”
