Manchester United have joined Barcelona in race for 25 year old Italian midfielder Marco Verratti after pursuing Matic and Eric Dier for long. PSG would not let go off the midfielder for cheap and United will face a stern test from Barcelona who are tracking the midfielder from past 18 months now.
What could help is that Verratti is reportedly considering switching agents, from Donato Di Campli to Mino Raiola and his clients usually end up at Manchester United.
According to Sportitalia, Verratti is seriously contemplating the idea of dropping Di Campli, who drew controversy when he suggested the Italian was being kept hostage by PSG.
That forced the 24-year-old to offer a public apology for his representative’s comments, while tellingly condemning them.
United scout Jose Mayorga is said to have held preliminary talks with the 24-year-old’s representatives to see if he would be tempted by a move to Old Trafford.
France football legend Patrick Kluivert claimed last month that PSG may be valuing Verratti at over €100m, and it is very difficult to convince the club in selling one of their star players if that audacious figure is not met.
Verrati’s present contract with the French side is until June 30 2021.
Verratti’s supreme game management and spiky nature would enliven the United midfield. The thought of him teaming up with Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera is tantalising and could well potentially make United the contenders for Champions League and no. 1 hotshots in Premier League again.
United have acquired some good players this summer and they still seem to be active in the transfer window to add some more quality, Ivan Perisic is still believed to be in talks with United and now Verratti links have stepped up the hopes of United fans to land a major silverware this season if they pull this off.
