FIFA U-17 World Cup : Mexico fail to reach quarterfinals for first time in last 4 attempts and France falter against Spain

Iran Vs. Mexico :-
Iran earned a spot in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup quarterfinals, scoring two early goals and holding on for a 2-1 win over Mexico on Tuesday at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The Round of 16 encounter was only seven minutes old, when Iran’s Mohammad Sharifi converted a penalty after Mohammad Ghaderi was fouled in the box by Adrian Vasquez.
Four minutes later, Allahyar Sayyad doubled the advantage, chipping over goalkeeper Cesar Lopez from 20-yards out with his right off a long ball from goalkeeper Ali Gholam Zadeh.
Mexico pulled to within one goal in the 37th minute as Roberto de la Rosa fired in from 17 yards after Gholam Zadeh punched away Diego Lainez’s initial shot.
In 68th minute, the CONCACAF champion nearly equalized, only for Jairo Torres’ left-sided free kick to hit the near post.
For the first time in its last four attempts, Mexico – the champion in 2005 and 20111 — did not progress beyond the Round of 16.
France Vs. Spain :-
The ticket for the quarterfinals was at stake in the ‘Round of 16’ match against France. The squad led by Santi Denia worked with fast transitions and made the most of gaps to reach the French goal.
However France was closed at the back and came out with speed in counterattacks, in search of making it to Álvaro Fernández’s goal. After several moments of a balance, France took over and held the ball in midfield.
In the 34′ minute Pinto worked on the left and rush to the goal, scoring the opener (1-0) for France. Ten minutes later, after a quick transition Ferrán crossed the ball and Juan Miranda scored the equalizer.
In the second half things changed, Spain kicked things up a notch and our internationals took over. The chances came about, but the ball was never netted. First Sergio Gómez, then Mate and Sergio Gómez once again, creating clear opportunities for the Spanish side.
When it looked like we were going to go to extra time with a draw (1-1), in the 90th minute. A penalty was signalled for Spain after Lara was knocked over in the rival area. Abel Ruiz took it upon himself to shoot and finally scored the winning 1-2.
Spain will face Iran on Sunday 22nd October.
