Champions League Finals : Real Madrid vs. Juventus
By Visesh Rathi
A ruthless Real Madrid meets a clinical Juventus in a clash that has the potential to overshadow the Clasico. Real Madrid is a club that is vying a terrific twelfth European cup while Juventus are eyeing only their third. Real Madrid, a team that has won more finals than anyone, faces a team in Juventus that has lost more finals than anyone at the pinnacle of European glory. Both have won their respective domestic leagues, as the Galacticos dethroned Barca while Juventus seem to have glued themselves to the Italian crown as they have won their sixth straight title now.
This is a game where Real’s attack will face Juventus defense. Just as one of the best players in the world is eyeing successive Champions League final, one of the best goalkeepers in the world looks to complete his set of trophies, having even won the world cup with his nation. It will be fascinating to see the solid Juventus defenders trying to nullify the threats from Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, Kroos, Modric, Isco, etc …. (Phew!!). While Juventus have conceded just three times in the competition so far, Madrid’s first clean sheet was in the semis against Atletico. Strikers like Higuain, who Real Madrid will know plenty of, and Mandzukic are capable of breaking Madrid defense while that will depend on the services offered by Dybala and Pjanic, who will be the key to Juventus’ performance as they face a midfield comprising of Kroos, Modric and Casemiro, who by themselves are quite capable of wrecking havoc, especially if they are in tune with Ronaldo and Benzema. Juventus are also aided by Alves, a former Catalan with plenty of UCL experience. Deadly from set pieces, and a terrific crosser of the ball, he will have a task in hand to contain Ronaldo, who has shown no sign of mercy in front of goal this season. Whether Bale plays or not remains to be seen, but Real has not felt his absence much thanks to Isco who seems to have developed a telepathic relation with Ronaldo and Benzema this season.
Going by the performances this season, Juventus look the most complete team in Europe at the moment, who might not have the star power of Real Madrid but are a well covered in all positions on the field. Madrid on the other hand, has got players that are capable of changing the course of game individually. This will be a treat for the fans of both teams but expect a low scoring but highly tantalizing game. May the best team, on the pitch tonight, win!
Prediction: Juventus deny Real Madrid as Higuain’s solo goal downs his old club.
