Rudra Dhanday, the 19-year-old became the first player to slam a double ton in an official Twenty20 game, overcoming Chris Gayle’s 175 for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2013 IPL.
There is no record available of a player scoring a double hundred in an official T20 tournament. Rudra Dhanday, who was ignored by Mumbai’s junior selectors for the U-19 team last season, entered the T20 record books after slamming a 67-ball unbeaten double hundred in an Mumbai University’s inter-college cricket tournament.
Turning out for Rizvi College in the Abis Rizvi Champions Trophy Super-8 College T20 Tournament tie, organised by University of Mumbai under the aegis of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), the youngster slammed 200 not out in just 67 balls against P Dalmia College at the Matunga Gymkhana.
Opting to bat first, Rizvi opener Dhanday went after the hapless attack on a true batting track. The youngster reached the three-figure mark in just 39 balls and went to score double ton in 67 balls, propelling his team to a mammoth 322 for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. He hit 21 fours and 15 sixes.
Dhanday said “I am speechless. I can’t believe I did something like this,” “It’s a perfect gift for my mom and dad who have their marriage anniversary tomorrow.”
