IPL 2017 : Mumbai Indians beat Gujrat Lions by 5 runs in Superover

Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Lions in the first super over of  IPL 2017 match. Earlier, GL scored 153/9 and then dismissed MI for the same score.

Gujarat Lions scored a total of 153 for nine against Mumbai Indians .Only Ishan Kishan was the lone fighter in the top order who scored 48 runs and fell short of his maiden IPL fifty and lions batting in the middle order suffered due to excellent bowling display by Mumbai Indians. Krunal Pandya took 3 wickets for 12 runs in his four overs. Lasith Malinga who was brought back into the squad took the important wickets of Brendon McCullum (6) and Aaron Finch (0).

Mumbai Indians chasing a total of 154, Parthiv Patel (70) gave Mumbai Indians a flying start, but Gujarat Lions came back into the game by picking up wickets regularly towards the end of the innings to earn themselves a super over. Basil Thampi was the pick of bowlers for Gujarat as he finished 3 for 29 runs in his four overs.

In superover , Kieron Pollard and Jos Buttler opened the batting for Mumbai in the super over and scored a total of 12 runs. Defending the target, Jasprit Bumrah was given the ball. For Gujarat, Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum came out to bat for the super over but were held by Bumrah’s brilliant yorkers. Jasprit Bumrah turned the match in MI’s favour.

After this win Mumbai Indian still stand at second position with 14 points, while Gujarat are placed fifth with six points
