ICC Champions Trophy Semi Final 2 : India vs Bangladesh Match Preview

Defending Champions India square off with Bangladesh in the next Champions Trophy semi-final, the winner through to face Pakistan in the final.

India and Bangladesh had locked horns in a warm-up contest where India demolished Bangladesh by 240 runs. Bangladesh were No. 6 in ICC ODI Rankings when entered the tournament, ahead of Sri Lanka and Pakistan. They faced Australia, New Zealand, and England in the group stage. 

Bangladesh lost to England despite putting up a mammoth 306. Rain came to their rescue when Australia were cruising to a definite win. Their last game was against New Zealand, a do-or-die contest. After stuttering at 33 for 4 in a 266-run chase, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmadullah scored a century each and pulled off the unlikely against all odds to take Bangladesh to their first ever semi-final of an ICC tournament.

India, on the hand, lost only one match to Sri Lanka. Before and after that, they defeated Pakistan and South Africa respectively in the tournament.

India outplayed Bangladesh in the 2015 world cup quarter-final, and defeated them in the Asia Cup Final in early 2016.However, Bangladesh won a historic ODI series 2-1 against India in 2015. So, they would carry that memory into the Edgbaston match.

Since the 2015 World Cup, Bangladesh has the better ODI record against top 8 sides than India. Both have won 11 matches each but the difference is Bangladesh have lost 10 times to India’s 13 times against top 8 sides.
