South Africa posted a modest target of 300 runs for Sri Lanka. However, Sri Lankan team collapsed for just 203 runs while chasing the target. Imran Tahir took four wickets to shatter the Sri Lankan batting lineup and declared Man of the Match for taking 4 wickets as well as a direct hit that resulted in the run-out of Suranga Lakmal.
South Africa notched up a 96-run victory over Sri Lanka in the third ICC Champions Trophy 2017 match at Kennington Oval in London on Saturday and open their campaign on a strong note.
Hashim Amla scored his 25th ODI century and Faf Du Plessis chipped in with a solid 70-ball 75 as South Africa posted a challenging 299 for six, Sri Lanka batsmen failed in the chase as they were all out for 203 in 41.3 overs.
Upul Tharanga scored a 57 while Niroshan Dickwella (41) and Kusal Perera (44) chipped in Sri Lanka, their efforts weren’t enough.
Chris Morris helped with two wickets while Morne Morkel and Kagiso Rabada took one each.
However, Sri Lanka pulled things back through some good death bowling. South Africa seemed to lose their way after Amla was dismissed and managed to score only 78 runs in the final 10 overs.
